May 2014 Letter

Perhaps no place in any community is so
totally democratic as the town library.
The only entrance requirement is interest.
~Lady Bird Johnson~
Our luncheon meeting is Wednesday, May 14th in the McLeish Room in
the lower level of the library.  Mary Meissner will present a program
on “Herstory”, about the influential women of Chouteau County.  This
is Montana’s 100-year anniversary of women’s suffrage  The Fort Benton
Woman’s Club was asked to research women of the past from Chouteau County.
The Museum of the Northern Great Plains at the Agricultural Center will
have a display this summer with stories & pictures which the Woman’s Club
members gathered during their research.  Lunch will be served at 11:30 AM
with Mary speaking at noon.  I do have a few business matters to discuss.
This will be a salad luncheon.  Please have your salad, dessert, or
extraneous dish at the library by 11:00 AM on the 14th so we may begin
serving at 11:30.  I am leaving to the members’ discretion what to bring.
If you can help set up, please let me know.
A reminder that the Pathfinder’s Federation meeting is once again being
held at the library on Thursday, May 15th.  The Pathfinder’s Federation
did not meet here last fall due to the government shutdown.  I realize
this might put a burden on the members to bring food two days in a row.
They have offered to pay the Friends $400 for this meal.  If the Friends
feel they can’t do it, we will need to make arrangements to have it catered.
Please call the library as soon as possible if you can bring food that day.
The library number is 622-5222.
I would like to thank all who participated in the winter discussion series.
Thanks to those who led the discussions & those who provided refreshments.  I
enjoyed all of the books we read this winter & I hope you did too. Thank
you for participating in National Library Week.  It was very festive this
year & the staff enjoyed seeing all of you who stopped by during the week.
The tea was a huge success & the dedication of the mural in the Children’s
Room brought people out in droves.
Summer Celebration is June 27, 28, & 29th.  The Friends Book Sale will be
from 9 AM to 4 PM on Friday, June 27th.  Please let me know if you would
like to help organize the book sale.  It is usually well attended &
a successful venture.

As it fell upon a day
In the merry month of May
Sitting in a pleasant shade
Which a grove of myrtles made.
